Some family members rely on paper documents to piece together a parent’s financial records when the parent no longer can or is no longer alive. Some consumers prefer paper notices because they fear that digital access to sensitive documents in a data breach puts their personal information at risk of being stolen and abused. At least one-third of Americans still do not have internet access at home, according to a 2018 Pew Research study.
